The trading desk, is the heart of the interaction with the markets, the small team work closely with their clients providing tailored trading services to the selection of professional investors that Novum cater for. The team is made of well connected individuals who work closely with the market to provide a premier service to executing large orders in all market conditions.

The team work closely with the corporate broking team to allow corporates and clients alike the best possible market post any fundraise. Novum specialises in the UK small cap market but offer certain investors coverage across global exchanges.

Mike Staten
 

The trading desk is headed up by Mike Staten, who joins with a wealth of experience trading in the small cap space after precious spells as Investment manager for the Credit Suisse subsidiary Astin Capital providing capital and liquidity to the UK small market, with a view to bringing ‘investment banking skills to the UK small cap market’. From Astin, his team was parachuted into Darwin Strategic, by Henderson Global investors, where Mike was responsible for all of Darwin’s trading activity, as Darwin became the number one provider of capital to AIM. After the buyout of Darwin Strategic by Lombard Odier in 2018, Mike joined Novum and has since been instrumental in forging new relationships with market makers as well as advising and working closely with a network of ultra high net worth investors which form the core of the trading activities at Novum. Mike graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Information Management and Business Studies. 

Scott Saunders
 

Scott started aged 16 as messenger at Buckmaster and Moore (which had just been bought out by Credit Suisse) in Feb 1989, by August Scott was for the Unit trust department. In 1994 Scott moved onto the Credit Suisse Private Banking dealing desk trading for the CS branches, the portfolio managers and some HNW individuals. In 2000 Scott joined Townsley stockbrokers (which became Insinger de Beaufort) as a dealer before becoming head dealer until the firm was closed after Insinger pulled out of the UK market in 2008 . Scott then joined Hoodless Brennan in 2010 which was subsequently taken over by Beaufort Securities becoming head of dealing in 2014. Scott joined Novum in November 2021.
